LA Market!

Why I Love my Job

Last week the bosses, Brittany, Courtney and myself headed to LA for market. For those of you curious as to what market is and what we do there this blog is definitely worth a read! We work hard but always find time to have a little fun.

Our journey begins very early on a Sunday morning. We meet at the airport for our 7am flight and are all still sleeping a little. After we board the plan, we wait to be served complimentary drinks (non alcoholic of course) and peanuts.

Once we land in LA, we hail a cab that will esquire us to the fashion district in downtown LA. Our particular cabby this time drove about 100 MPH the whole way and I definitely felt as we might die that day. Fortunately we didn't.

Once we've reached downtown LA and get dropped off by our suicidal cabby, we are officially ready to start our day! I love downtown LA. These are two buildings that we generally spend most of our time.

Once inside, we begin with our 9 am appointment. This day it happened to be at Hudson with our sales rep, Sasha. She begins to show us samples and we all take note.

Everyone is listening intently as to what Sasha is saying as we decide what to buy for each store.

Sometimes, we will have Brittany and Kristie try stuff on to see how it fits! Looking good Brittany!

After the modeling, we select the items we want to buy and line them up accordingly. Then, we write the order.

Next, we go to another appointment in a different showroom. We are shown more samples and start the buying process over again.

Working hard?! Or hardly working?! ;) I love my job!

I am a huge fan of all the displays that are in showrooms. This particular one was my favorite. It was all candy and we could eat it too. Heaven!

At our last appointment of the day, it is safe to say that we are all a little delirious. However, there is still work to be done! But when you walk into a showroom that has dinosaur displays, pugs and fun colors, let's just say it's not easy to be serious or stay focused.

After getting all the fun stuff out of our system, it was time to buckle down and get serious and start writing orders for these magnificent items .

Apparently, Andrea was having a little too much fun writing orders. Muahahahaha!

After our last appointment, its time for some fun! This particular trip we attended a Geek convention at the Icehouse. Let's just say we definitely raised some eyebrows while in attendance.

There was a comedian too that was pretty funny! Here is a groupie pic after the show, we are still laughing!

After a night out on the town, we resort to our hotel to get some sleep so we can do it all over again tomorrow. This trip we woke up to an earthquake! Kind of scary!

Spring Training in AZ

Helping you to not get a "Bronx Cheer"

March is a beautiful time of year, especially in AZ! Our gorgeous sunny and 75 degree weather makes any spring breaker want to spring to our state. Along with the weather comes plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. My personal favorite outdoor activity are the spring training games. Rather you like baseball or not a spring training game is something you must attend this month. With stadiums everywhere and a game everyday it is easy to get in several this season. While you sit on the lawn drinking a cold beer and watching the players in those nice infamous baseball pants, be aware that someone may be checking you out and your outfit better be a “homer", pun intended. What to wear to the Waste Management Open

It’s that time of year again in Arizona....The Waste Management Open (WMO). For those of us unfamiliar with the event you might be asking yourself, what is the WMO? Let’s just say the WMO is a golf tournament that has found a way to make golf a little bit cooler and a little more fun. Along with my opinion I will also give you these fun facts….

1. The WMO is the most attended golf tournament in the world.

2. It attracts over half a million people. Last year on just Saturday 179,000 people attended the tournament.

Sidenote: The WMO has become so popular that Tiger Woods opts out of playing because it has become “too much of a party.” I am guessing he is just upset because who are we kidding, no one actually watches golf. J

We are not watching golf because we are too busy enjoying the “winter” temperatures of 75 degrees and drinking cocktails with our friends. All while basking in the Arizona sun. That being said, the WMO is the place to be and be scene. Not surprisingly, fashion is at the center of attention.

What to wear you ask? If you are thinking of golf fashion then you might be thinking this vest would be expectable…….

You think to yourself, “ Dang, I look good. I can’t wait for everyone to check out my fly vest and tell me how great I look. Hey, is that a cute boy over there?”

If you find yourself alone and no one wants to talk to you and that cute boy never even glances in your direction, then you my friend have missed the WMO fashion train.

Tour of the Kimono

If anyone has been shopping recently you will notice a new trend gracing the stores. That is the trend of the kimono. Traditionally, the kimono has been known as a Japanese garment but not anymore!

Fun fact: The word kimono literally means “a thing to wear." Kimonos were developed in Japan during the Heian period. Making a kimono used a new technique known as the straight line cut method. This technique involved cutting pieces of fabric in straight lines and sewing them together. With this technique kimono makers did not have to concern themselves with the shape of the wearers body.

Straight line cut kimonos offered many advantages. They were easy to fold, they were suitable for all weather and they could be worn in layers to provide warmth in winter. Kimonos made of breathable fabric such as linen were comfortable in summer. These advantages helped kimonos become part of Japanese peoples everyday lives.

These things are all true of the updated kimono version we see in the U.S. today. One difference is we are seeing them with an updated American twist. Kimonos are a great piece to add to your collection. In AZ you can wear them year round. Rather it be treated as an accessory to throw on and update a simple outfit or to even wear as a cover-up for a swimsuit during resort season, the kimono has you covered (no pun intended)!

In these next pictures, Taelor shows us how to wear kimonos for special occasions while she travels around the world!

First stop: Italy

Here she is in Italy by the gondolas in a perfectly fitted floral kimono. Taelor says, “I am ready to row my boat gently down the stream and look great doing it.”

For our next stop in Italy, Taelor requested to look at some wall paintings. She wanted to wear something special when she toured art in Italy. She decide on this fringe kimono (which is our number one selling kimono) while she ooed and ahhed the artwork.

While looking at artwork Taelor shouted, “I’ am feeling “fringy” today!"

The wall art agreed.

Next stop: Africa

Taelor has a thing for elephants and really needed to see them so we took her to Africa. On this day she chose a maroon, lace ensemble to impress the elephants.

“I just love elephants!" Taelor exclaimed.

The elephant then said, "Well I love your kimono!" And nudged her with his trunk. He then stated, "Look at the photobomb!"

They both had a hearty chuckle.

Last stop: Chandler, AZ

Taelor decided she wanted to come back to the states so she could see some holiday decorations.

She decided on another fringe kimono but one that had more of a holiday flare.

While looking at decorations, Taelor got excited when she thought she saw a giant mistletoe. She immediately stood under it but there was no one there to giver her a smooch. So sad.

Last but not least Taelor really wanted to step it up with a holiday kimono for when she went to see the giant holiday reindeer bushes.

This reindeer bush loved Taelor's kimono so much he requested us to take a picture of them two together.

Rolling in HOT!

Statement Necklaces

What’s rolling in hot this holiday season? If you guessed Santa Claus on fire, or a hot potato, you are wrong.

The correct Answer is, drum roll please…….Statement Necklaces! Yes, that’s right! I know you’re thinking “wait, we’ve been seeing statement necklaces for a while now” and you would be correct. However, this time we are seeing a plethora of them coming in with a “holiday flare.” We are seeing them shiny and sparkly now more than ever and we are seeing them mixed with both silver and gold.

At one time mixing silver and gold was considered a fashion faux paus but that is now a thing of the past! Gold has been the primary metal of people’s choice for the past couple of years but we have slowly started to see silver making a comeback. These pieces mixed with silver and gold are slowly transitioning us from gold accessories to silver. Is silver going to be the primary metals of people’s choice? Most likely! For now have fun this holiday season mixing both!
